Coffee Chain (External)

The following template is an example outline for a podcast a coffee chain might use for external communication purposes.

Starbean Coffee's "Bean me up!" podcast

Starshine is a 45-minute weekly podcast with one main host and several segment cohosts

Segment 1: All the News that Brews

All the News that Brews features news and commentary about coffee, the latest health findings about coffee, economic and political news about coffee growing nations Starbean Coffee sources beans from.

Segment 2: A Fresh Pot

The latest store opening is announced or renovations to an existing store are trumpeted. New seasonal products can also be introduced and discussed.

Segment 3: Coffee Klatch

A random customer in a random store is interviewed. What is the customer's favorite beverage? What does he/she do for a living? What's on his/her iPod?

Segment 4: Bean Around the Block

Each week an interesting shop or tourist spot near a Starbean outlet is featured.

Notes

Segment 4 in this outline is a good example of a podcast's PR value. Some large coffee chains, especially if they're opening in culturally sensitive or "unique" neighborhoods, sometimes engender the wrath of residents fearing the chain will destroy the business of local merchants. The "Bean around the block" segment allows the coffee chain to demonstrate it's a good neighbor, it helps promotes local merchants, and, of course, if people are made aware of interesting shops, they will probably stop in for a coffee at Starbean.
